In 2013, she was awarded the Blackmon Safety Patient Award from the South Carolina Hospital Association for her work on reducing deliveries before 39 weeks of pregnancy.  She was also a member of teams that won both the “Baby Friendly” accreditation and earned Childbirth Center of Excellence for Waccamaw Community Hospital, the first hospital in the state to earn such a designation. From 2013 to 2015, she served as chair or co-chair of the Georgetown County March of Dimes Campaign to improve the health of mothers and babies.

“After April, my husband and I hope to travel,” says Dr. Gerber. “I also have a pile of books, and I might even take piano lessons.”

“While I’m stepping back, patients will find other wonderful Gynecologists at Island Women’s Care, who mirror my philosophy.” says Dr. Gerber. “Dr. Caroline Millan joined me in starting this practice, and her patients love her.  Dr. Callie Meeks is well known to our community, and we are lucky to have her.  Next summer, Dr. Carolyn Eskridge joins Island Women’s Care. She’s been in a very busy practice in Charlotte and will be a terrific asset to women’s health care in our community.”

Concentrating on Women’s Health Issues, Island Women’s Care Opens in Pawleys

(Pawleys Island, SC  5-16-6)  Opening this week, Island Women’s Care focuses on the unique Gynecological issues facing women throughout their adult life.

“As a Gynecologist, I understand that I’m treating the whole person, not just the health issue that brought the woman into my office,” says Caroline Millan, a board-certified Gynecologist and 10-year resident of Pawleys Island. Island Women’s Care is located at 56 Business Center Drive, in the complex directly across Hwy 17 from the U.S. Post office.

“Women’s health care has evolved dramatically over the last few years,” says Dr. Millan. “I believe that an important element in delivering quality care is being up-to-date on new developments in the care of females. I’m always looking for better treatment options for my patients. I believe that mutually engaged patient-physician relationship, plus the delivery of evidence-based medicine, will improve the health and quality of life of my patients.”

Dr. Millan received a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Duke University, earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and performed her residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Before becoming a partner in Island Women’s Care, Dr. Millan practiced in Myrtle Beach, Marion, SC, and Alexandria, VA.

Medicine seemed a natural path for her to pursue, says Dr. Millan. “Several members of my family are in the medical field and have I was exposed to all aspects of medicine at an early age. My passion for women’s health issues developed during a clinical rotation in medical school.”

Island Women’s Care specializes in Gynecology and women’s health issues, striving to provide state-of-the-art medical care with compassion and kindness at each stage of a woman’s life.
